Wrist Pain
What Are Some of the Common Causes of Wrist Pain?
If you or someone that you care about has been experiencing wrist pain, you may find that you are getting more and more worried about it. Whether you spend a great deal of your time seated at a computer or you are someone one is very active in sports, or both, you will find that wrist pain is something that can have a number of causes. The more you know about the probable causes of the wrist pain that you are facing, the better you are going to be able to deal with them. Take some time and learn about this type of pain and think about what might have caused yours. This is the first step in treating it.
One common reason that you might experience wrist pain is thanks to a sprain. A wrist sprain usually refers to an injury that occurs to the ligaments around your wrist joint. Though most people know when they have gotten a sprain, it is important to remember to be observant. If the pain is quite intense, if there is swelling but no broken bones, you might be dealing with a sprain.
Carpal tunnel syndrome is another reason that many people experience wrist pain. The carpal nerve is one that runs along the outside of your hand from your pinky to your wrist and it travels through a sheathe known as the carpal tunnel. When the nerve gets used or compressed too much in the sheathe, a certain amount of pain can result. This sensation might range from a small tingling to a deep stabbing pain, but the truth of the matter is that once it starts, it will usually get worse. When you are dealing with carpal tunnel syndrome, an awareness of what you doing to your body is essential.
More common and more easily treated than carpal tunnel syndrome is tendonitis. If you have wrist pain and your bring it to a doctor, there is a good chance that he or she will proceed and treat it as though you have tendonitis. Essentially, this condition will cause pain and swelling and it means that the tendon sheaths in your hands are inflamed. Happily enough, treating tendonitis is something that can be handled without the aid of surgery and it can be undertaken independently.
Take some time and make sure that you are familiar with the most common causes of wrist pain. If you are someone who uses your hands regularly, be careful with them. Think about how much you are using them, and never ignore any pain or soreness. If you do something like type for hours on end, make sure that you take routine breaks and that you have the resources that you need to walk away for a little while. When it comes to wrist pain, remember that prevention is always better than trying to fix damage that has been done.
Consider what your options are going to be to get rid of persistent pain and remember that you should always try to pay attention to what your body is telling you! Read more about the wrist brace here.
